Co-Creative Participants

The old shape which is dying or is petrified needs to be shifted into a shape which is alive, pulsed through with life, fostering life, fostering soul, fostering spirit. This is the expanded definition of art.
Joseph Beuys

Co-creative Participants in the EARTHFEST-Initiative are all those individuals, organisations and communities who will celebrate an Earthfest for the first time from June 22nd to June 24th, 2018 in order to reconnect with living reality.

There is much to discover on the World Acre – from the beauty of old cereal varieties to the dramatic developments in agriculture. Photograph: die Auslöser Berlin

If we were to divide the total global surface area of arable land by the number of people living on the planet, each person would get 2000m² (half an acre). On this tiny spot everything must grow that a human needs to live. The World Acre in the Berliner Botanischer Volkspark Blankenfelde-Pankow lets us grasp this personal connection with global agriculture in a sensual way.

The Earthfest, celebrated here on 23rd of June, is a fantastic occasion to meet the garden as a celebratory space. A joint meditation at the beginning helps us to slow down, and allows underused sensory organs to re-awaken, giving space to our connectedness with everything alive. We will then express this enlivening experience in a sculpture, a text or through sharing in a dialogue and with this give our thanks.

Invitation to the Earthfest 2018. Video by Frank Fischer.

Create habitats for man and nature. Our garden at the Würm river unites many things: ornamental and vegetable garden, dwelling and creation space, nature space with pond, dead wood, compost, herb meadow and old fruit trees – a refuge for man, bee, earthworm and robin. For the Earthfest 2018 we invite neighbours and friends to celebrate, wonder, meditate, inspire. And we want to encourage a natural design for all green areas.

We are eight women from the heart of the Eifel volcanic region, a landscape of great power, which, however, is devastated through the mining of the ancient volcanos. During the Earthfest we are inviting individuals from near and far to delve deeply into the perception of power, wounds and healing. We are offering a three day process that will take place on mountains, in pits, and in gardens. The open, creative design process of the Earthfest is already at work in ourselves and our surroundings.

What could happen to us humans and all life on earth if soil from every country lived together in one room? Photograph: Friedhelm Hoffmann

The Earth museum is based in the Neukölln neighbourhood of Berlin. Individuals from over 160 nations live here. As a homage to this diversity, the Earth museum collects – with the support of many contributors – a glass of soil from every country of the world.  At the occasion of the »Earthfest«, Jaluro Torres, an Australian artist with aboriginal roots, will show his works. We are also preparing an Earthfest-performance together with children living in foster homes, with whom we also regularly work together.

Four farms and 300 members (Solawistas) form the solidarious agriculture union in the north of Kiel, Germany. Since 2015 we have been taking responsibility for our soils by treating them in sustainable ways. We will come together for an Earth- and Farm-fest on our vegetable farm.

Earth tables as the place for a communal meal. Afterwards, flowers will be seeded into the soil. The city of Nürtingen supports this ceremony. Graphic Arts: Andreas

On 24th of June we invite everyone to a communal meal around earth tables. We wish to meet with as many people from diverse origins on the meadow of the Kreuzkirche, Nürtingen, in order to celebrate the earth which belongs to us all. Please bring dishes from your countries of origin which we can then share. After the meal we are going to give thanks to the earth on the tables by seeding them. Touch the miracle: Life comes forth from the interconnected cycles of the living world. Photograph: fotola.de/atelier natur und leben

If we remind ourselves of the unity of all life – and if we experience it – we find a new location in our own life. Then we are more conscious regarding the relationship to the other beings around us and concerning ourselves. In the workshop these spaces of connection open up again and again. For the Earthfest we will shift the compost in the garden, we will consciously explore the miracles of metamorphosis, the production of fertile soil, we will take heed of what they tell us… and enjoy a potluck meal together.

Beauty, permanence and rootedness can be found close by. If we manage to consciously perceive this, we gain peace and new directions. Photograph: Wilhelm Breßer

The meaning of earthfest for us is to be connected to the earth. We can get closer to this if we celebrate and nourish our connection to the living earth, if we give thanks, and if we bring the aliveness of everything closer to all people. To do this, we will celebrate this new festival with a Medicine Wheel ceremony, with a celebration of the annual cycle, a sweat lodge ceremony and an earth-mound ceremony.
